Fatal Wrong Way Driver Charged, New York Injury Lawyer Reports

The driver who caused a fatal accident on the Long Island Expressway was charged with second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound HOV lane and crashed into the median, the police told a New York Car Accident Lawyer.

The 27-year-old driver, a resident of Deer Park, survived with only minor injuries and was detained overnight, a Nassau police homicide squad detective told a New York Injury Lawyer.

The driver and a 28-year-old friend of his were going to Queens after a christening when the driver turned his 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van in the wrong direction. Police received several 911 calls about the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction before the accident occurred.

The blue van struck the median at an uneven point and the passenger side of the van was torn off, according to a New York Car Accident Lawyer. The passenger was severely injured and taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Other charges placed upon the driver include second-degree manslaughter and reckless driving. Police told New York Injury Lawyers they were unsure, as of yet, how the van came to enter the expressway from the wrong direction.
