Paralyzed Student Walks at Graduation Ceremony

A very clever and popular straight A student was paralyzed in a car accident four years ago, says a doctor. This accident completely changed his life and introduced lots of new challenges that he would have to deal with.

He was an active student and enjoyed sports. The car accident completely turned his world on its head. He always dreamed of the day that he would be able to walk again, but the chances of that happening looked very unrealistic.

A straight-A student who was paralysed after a road accident four years ago has used his university graduation ceremony to show the world he can walk again.
Austin Whitney severed his spinal cord - paralysing him from the waist down - after crashing when driving drunk in 2007.

But against all odds, he got up to shake hands with University of California Berkeley chancellor, Robert Birgeneau on Saturday, observed a source. The 22-year-old, who severed his spinal cord four years ago, used exoskeleton technology to walk on his graduation day Austin Whitney was hospitalized for 41 days after crashing his car while drunk in 2007 - and he was luck to survive. The extent of the damage to Mr. Whitney's car, after he smashed into a tree, is shown.

The determined 22-year-old was able to be awarded his double major degree in political science and history and now plans to attend law school and dreams of working in the entertainment industry.

A month after graduating with top results from his high school, on July 21, 2007, Mr. Whitney almost killed himself, and his best friend, after swerving his vehicle into a tree - he was in hospital for 41 days. Police in New York City and Long Island would handle a case like this in the same way.

Drunk Driver Causes Crash which Hospitalizes 3 Children

A well-known Lawyer explains that a man was caught by police trying to run away from his vehicle after causing a car accident. The man crossed the double yellow in the center of the road which caused his car to come into the path of another. This caused a head on collision which left three people with serious symptoms which required hospital treatment.

In a police report which has been obtained by the firm, police explain that the man who has been arrested smelt of alcohol. It is thought that he was drunk and this was the main cause of the accident.

The driver was being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence. The man was also found not to have a valid license, and to be in violation of his probation. There were also no license plates on the vehicle.

The driver was detained by police overnight on a $5,000 bond. He will likely be charged at the Stamford courthouse on Monday morning.

The drunk driver which caused the accident was driving north along West Avenue. The accident occurred because the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the center of the road. This caused the vehicle to strike into a Ford Taurus which was traveling north. The three young children inside this car were injured and required medical treatment.

The crash sent the vehicles spinning off the road. One of them rested in a driveway along the road.

There were several eye witnesses who saw the accident unfold. They said that they saw a man jump out of one of the cars and started to flee the scene. The eye witnesses managed to give police a description of the passenger and driver which escaped. Police extended the search and managed to pick up the driver on Main Street, just one block away from the accident.
The reports from the scene say that the driver smelt of booze and was quite obviously drunk. His speech was also slurred.

The three children which were injured in the accident were transferred to Stamford hospital for treatment. All the injuries were considered to be minor and all are in a stable condition. Police in NYC and Westchester watch for drunk drivers.

Call for action at crash corner

A local couple is trying to make a notorious intersection safer. Many cars have crashed there and the latest car accidents involved several vehicles on Saturday in the afternoon. A NYC Car Accident Attorney also points out that there have been dozens of accidents here over the past year.

The local residents are trying to campaign to install give way signs and islands in the center of the road to make the junction much safer. The local residents themselves were almost involved in a serious accident at the same intersection around one month ago. This made them realize just how dangerous this intersection really is.

The couple was driving south when there was another car driving west. The smaller car sped through the intersection without stopping. This narrowly missed their vehicle as it got across slightly before them. This was a very frightening experience as it only just missed the side of the car.

The couple is campaigning by writing letters to local newspapers. They state that if they were a few seconds earlier crossing the intersection that they would have been killed at the scene. There have also been a spate of bicycle accidents at this site.

Just a week after their near miss, another serious traffic accident involving three vehicles happened at the intersection. The three cars were badly damaged with the occupants requiring medical attention.

Although nobody has been killed at the intersection, the locals believe it is only a matter of time. That is why a NYC Car Accident Attorney has been contacted to try and help push forward plans to make the intersection much safer.

The couple believes that by installing traffic islands at the intersection they would make it much more visible and easier to see. This should make it possible to avoid even more accidents and crashes at the scene.

Many other local residents are also trying to make the junction safer. Other people have suggested installing stop signs or alternatively fitting larger give way signs to make it more visible.

The local planning department is currently looking at ways of making the intersection safer. However, they state that the intersection actually has fairly minor crash rates but will look at improving the safety of the road. Injuries at this spot vary and similar dangerous spots also exist in New York City and Queens.
