New recommendations for car seats released today

For years now it has been a milestone for parents to switch their one-year-old children from rear-facing car seats to forward-facing car seats. NY Car Accident Lawyers pointed out today that a study from 2007 has convinced the American Academy of Pediatrics to recommend raising this milestone to age two.
This study found staggering statistics that children under 2 are 75 percent less likely to suffer severe or fatal injuries in a vehicle accident if they face backward.
The Academy says a baby’s head is relatively large in proportion to the rest of his body, and the bones of his neck are structurally immature, described the NYC Car Accident Lawyer. They say if he’s rear-facing, his entire body is better supported by the shell of the car seat.
The Academy is also recommending that older children stay in booster seats until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall now, so that the seat belt fits properly on them and protects them better in the event of an accident.
The recommendations are meant to help parents move away from gospel-held notions that are based on a child’s age, a reporter observed. They want them to recognize that with each transition they make, from rear-facing to forward-facing, to booster seats, there is a decline in the safety of their child. Distracted Driving is also a cause of accidents.
Observers explained that other countries like Sweden present some compelling evidence that these recommendations make sense. Children in Sweden sit rear facing until age 4 and boasts the lowest highway fatality rate for children 6 and younger.
One report claimed it saved a young girl’s life seven years ago when a couple’s van landed upside down in a very traumatic traffic accident, revealed the NY Car Accident Lawyer.
The E.M.T.’s told the couple that as soon as they saw the car, they were ready to start taking out bodies. Instead, they found the entire family nearly unscathed, with all three children suspended upside down, still securely strapped in their car seats. They are trying to get drivers in Manhattan and Long Island to be aware if these facts.
Thankfully rear-facing car seats today can accommodate children who weigh up to 45 pounds.

College student falls asleep at the wheel and causes two deaths

“This heart-wrenching story has been in the news for a few weeks,” said a NY Car accident Lawyer. “These were all nice kids with bright futures and it all came to an end with one mistake,” he added.
A 20-year-old girl was driving with three passengers in her car when the tired student fell asleep, hit a tree and caused two of her good friends’ deaths.
The girls were all pledging the same sorority and were on their way to yet another pledging event when this happened. Thankfully there was no alcohol or drugs involved and therefore no DWI or drunk driving was charged.
It appears that the girl driving the car has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor deaths by motor vehicle and will be attending court next week.
The observer went on to explain that although the girls pledging for the sorority hadn’t been drinking or abusing drugs, they had all been up for most of the night before, possibly performing various pledge duties that would help their final initiation into the sorority.
A police officer from the scene said, “It’s such a shame that some of these kids will almost anything to be accepted into a group. This whole accident could have been avoided if they had just slept a few more hours.” College students in Queens and Westchester County are guilty of this also.
One of the girls, who were killed, was reportedly studying to be a veterinarian and the other girl was working on a degree to become a pediatrician. A reporter said the girl driving the car, will be taking a small break from college.
“Her parents think it would be best if she came home for a semester after this is all over,” he said. “She will likely undergo major therapy once she finishes out whatever sentence is given to her.”
NY Car Accident Attorneys say that 60% of college deaths are from car crashes. “It is unknown how many of these are alcohol-related or texting-related,” one person remarked, “Texting-related accidents are definitely ahead of alcohol-related accidents now, though.”

Woman killed in highway crash with truck

There's a story today about a woman involved in a crash with a truck on the highway.
This poor woman was trying to make a U-turn on the interstate where the police normally do it and drove right into the path of an 18-wheeler. She was killed instantly from the impact of the crash.
The woman had apparently been traveling to visit her family when she realized she needed to turn around for something, her family had confirmed. She apparently underestimated the speed of oncoming traffic when she tried to make that turn.
“We are so sad to have lost her this way,” her 30-year-old daughter said. “She was a wonderful mother and a wonderful grandmother to her 5 grandchildren. She will be missed.”
Manhattan Car Accident Lawyers said the driver of the truck walked away from the accident with no injuries. When a person’s car hits a truck, the car passengers rarely survive.
Police say the woman was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser and was in the crossover right before she crashed. The truck struck the car right away and both vehicles went flying down an embankment and into a swamp.
Observers said that the police are investigating the crash and whether or not alcohol or narcotics played a roll. Drunk Driving is dangerous and is not tolerated in counties like Nassau and Suffolk. The police said that in a situation like this they have to cover all of their bases. From the looks of the crash, the family’s story and the nature of what happened, it really seems like no alcohol or narcotics were involved but still the authorities have to do everything they can to investigate the situation fully.
Thousands of crashes like this happen every year but statistics show that the number of crash occurrences is down but not the number of deaths that occur in these types of accidents.
Manhattan Car Accident Lawyers said that any the percentage of death is the same. “We still have a long way to go,” he said. “Families are still losing loved ones in unnecessary crashes.”

Family of Four Killed After Running into School Bus

A family of four was killed after their car ran into a school bus. Two people, the bus driver and an elementary school student, were on the bus at the time. The bus driver and the student suffered only minor injuries, reports a NY City Car Accident Lawyer. Law enforcement officials do not have all the details needed to explain why this tragic accident occurred, but they believe the car was speeding at the time.
The accident occurred in Ash, North Carolina on a quiet country road. The family, which included a husband, wife and two small children were in a car alongside the school bus. The husband, who was driving, may have sped up to pass the bus when the accident occurred. The husband, age 31, the wife, age 30 and two children, ages 6 and 9 were pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver, age 61 and the young student were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. It is unclear when the bus driver and child were released from the hospital and if they will need further treatment for their injuries.
Law enforcement officials are still investigating this case as they are unsure how the accident occurred. The bus was found on the roadside shoulder in a ditch which could indicate that it was pushed by the car. It appears the car crossed the center line and entered the school bus's lane. Whether this was intentional or not is still being investigated. The driver of the car may have momentarily taken his eyes off the road or swerved too quickly to get around the bus.
Luckily, there were no other children on the bus at the time of the accident. According to a New York Injury Lawyer, the young boy, who suffered minor injuries, was the only one left on the bus. The other children had apparently been dropped off by the bus driver. It is unclear when the bus driver will return to work. It is unknown when the funerals will be held for the family. Bus drivers in Long Island and New York City are taught to avoid situations such as this.

Man Killed After Hitting another Vehicle

A man was killed after crossing a highway median and hitting another vehicle. The driver and a woman passenger in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, reports a New York Injury Lawyer. The driver had been drinking prior to the accident, but law enforcement officials say that was not the cause of the accident. The reason why the man crossed the median is still under investigation.
The 81-year old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. He had been driving a Chevy Blazer. The driver and the woman passenger had been driving a Chevy Suburban. The accident occurred around 9pm on a Monday. The man in the Blazer crossed the median and hit the Suburban which was headed in the opposite direction, explains a New York Injury Lawyer. It is unclear at this time if the man had been drinking or was under the influence of drugs. Further investigation is needed to determine if the man was having a medical emergency while driving or if he simply wasn't paying attention to where he was going at the time.
Luckily, no other vehicles were involved in the accident. According to a New York Car Accident Lawyer, police will probably interview witnesses to learn more about what happened right before and after the accident occurred. The man was alone in his vehicle and the driver and the woman were the only people in the other vehicle, so witnesses may include those driving near the vehicles or those driving by after the accident happened.
It is unclear if any funeral arrangements have been made for the man or where the funeral will be held. The driver and the woman passenger were released from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries. No charges have been filed against anyone involved. If the man is found negligent, files will not be filed since the man died, suggests a Lawyer. Law enforcement officials still would like to know how the accident happened for their reports. A medical examiner's report which is required everywhere including Manhattan and Nassau County will help officials determine if the man was suffering from a heart attack stroke at the time of the accident.

Man Impaled By Metal Post After Vehicular Accident

A man involved in a vehicular accident was impaled by a metal post when police found him. When officers arrived on the scene, they were surprised that a 3-inch wide metal post from a road sign was sticking from the man's body. The post was cut from one end of the sign and man was transported to the hospital with a large part of the post still inside his body. The rest of the post was removed during surgery.
The post, said a New York Injury Lawyer, missed all vital organs and was lodged between masses of muscle and tissue. The man was very lucky as the post missed organs such as the bladder and liver by mere inches. The part of the post removed weighed about 11 pounds. While the man will have to undergo a long recovery process, it could have been much worse if the post had hit any of his organs.
The man had been talking to his sister-in-law on his cell phone when he lost control of his pick-up truck and hit the metal post. The man, who had recently lost his job, was enrolling in a local college to learn a new trade. It had been snowing that night which could explain how the man lost control of the pick-up truck so easily.
The family of the man including the man's twin brother where shown the part of the metal post that was removed from the man's body. According to a New York Car Accident Lawyer, the family was in shock that the post didn't do more damage, but they are happy the man will recover. It will take some time before the man will be able to resume his normal routine. He will also have a large scar where the post had impaled his body.
It is not unusual for those who undergo this type of surgery to require physical therapy and weeks of bed rest to recover fully, suggests a Lawyer. The man is listed in the hospital in serious condition, but over time his condition should be downgraded. The man may need additional out-patient care once he leaves the hospital. Hospitals in New York City and Long Island have learned from this.

Woman accused of killing CHP Officer in crash now faces civil suits as well, cites NY Injury Lawyer

A 23 year old woman who was flying high on Methamphetamine at 67 miles per hour crashed into a California Highway Patrol officer, last June, killing him instantly, claims a New York Injury Lawyer. The accident left the family of the officer devastated, and the driver who is accused of killing the man behind bars.

This is the same as Drunk Driving. Reports obtained by authorities stated that the family of the victim is now filing civil suits against the woman in addition to the criminal charges being held against her. Police in the Bronx and Brooklyn want to make certain that they send a message that what the woman did was wrong and they state that all of the money that is won in the case will go towards helping others, in particular young people who want to become police officers.

The Lawyer also stated in his report that the widow of the officer who was killed, along with his parents, had filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman in addition to a complaint of personal injury and property damage. The woman who killed the officer is still in custody and could face 15 years to life in prison just from the criminal charges filed against her.

The NY City Car Accident Lawyer said that the civil cases will likely result in fines that could become quite steep. Friends and family of the officer say that he was a good man who just wanted to keep people safe. The woman is scheduled to go to trial in San Luis Obispo for her crimes.

Two dead in car wreck involving semis

Anytime an 18-wheeler is involved in a car wreck, the results are never pretty, said the NY City Car Accident Lawyer. This case is a prime example of a terrible wreck that killed two elderly people; a pastor and his wife. The collision happened at an intersection and involved two semis. Somehow or other, the pastor’s vehicle was caught in between the two trucks and the truck behind them rear ended their car, causing an underride accident.
The police want to know a whole lot more about this accident and are asking anyone with any information to come forward. They want to find out if anyone saw the accident or saw the two trucks just before the accident. Given the fact that the truck behind the car rear-ended them, indicates that he was not paying attention to the road and it may also indicate he was speeding, as the force of the impact shoved the car under the truck in front, commented the New York Injury Lawyer.
Accidents like this are devastating for the family left behind and in this case, the family would likely have a solid wrongful death case to take to a personal injury lawyer. There will be other things that the police all over, including Nassau and Suffolk Counties, want to find out, including what the trucker was doing before the accident. In cases like this where a truck rear-ends another vehicle, you can count on the fact that the driver was not paying attention to driving.
All it takes is one split second with their eyes off the road and it’s too late to stop. In fact, big rigs can’t stop on a dime. While they may be able to slow down some, by the time they hit, they still do an enormous amount of damage.
