The man driving the Honda, who was slammed into 3 parked cars, was saved by a witness. As the driver screamed for help flames took over his vehicle. One of the men involved in the accident was able to escape his vehicle on his own. The Mercedes crashed into a pole a few blocks downs and a pedestrian was killed by a motorist. The body of Elmer Mendez, 32 years old of Shirley, the pedestrian wasn’t found until 10 hours after the accident. He was found on Montauk Highway in Yaphank, Suffolk.

30 Year old Jose Ramos of Valley Stream, New York was killed during a drag race between him Hector Manuel Velasquez Macedo a 28 year old resident of Baldwin and Denis Cardona a 33 year old resident of Freeport. The three men were involved in a racing contest on the Wantagh State Parkway which caused Ramos 2002 Chevy Impala to hit a tree as he headed south on the parkway. John Palermo a 27 year old Rochester, NY native was killed in a car crash that occurred in North Hollywood. Persi Esquival, a 47 year old Valley Stream, Long Island resident, was already on probation for being convicted of DWI 2006. Esquival had attended a party hosted by the Diocese of Rockville Centre at the Hempstead Union Free School District building earlier that night. He then left the party and was driving his SUV when he crossed over into oncoming traffic. His truck hit the car being driven by 21 year old Jason Shein and three friends. Reports show that everyone in Shein’s car suffered injury. One person, whose name has not been revealed, suffered a serious injury. Shein’s injury was fatal. Esquival blood alcohol contect was three times the legal limit. He was arrested for numerous charges including aggravated vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Shein’s family has also filed a lawsuit against Esquival’s insurance carrier. They also filed suit against the Diocese of Rockville Center and Hempstead Union Free School District for allowing a patron of their party to get so intoxicated.

Rev. Timothy Wright’s wife, Betty Wright was killed by a wrong way driver on the Pennsylvania Highway. Shami Chaikin, a 78 year old Manhattan NY resident, was riding her mobile scooter in the designated bike lane in Greenwich Village when a garbage truck. Ke Hai Du was standing in a parking spot when he got into an altercation with a man who wanted the spot. Syosset’s resident Nancy Adler 55 years old of Mesa Road in Syosset was killed making a left at the intersection of Luddington Road and Merrick Avenue in East Meadow after a car containing three teenagers slammed into her.
