What started as a simple car accident turned into a fatal accident on Sunrise Highway in Seaford, NY. A BMW had rear ended a Nissan near Washington Avenue and Sunrise Highway. None of the passengers in the cars suffered injury during the accident and both cars pulled over to the side of the road. The driver of the BMW then walked across the street and turned around to come back when he was struck by a passing Kia SUV. He was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center; located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow NY 11554. The driver of the Kia; 42 year old Gina Dicostanzo of West Hempstead, NY; was also taken to Nassau University Medical Center and was treated for shock. The passengers of the Nissan that was rear ended declined medical treatment. Nassau County Police did not release the type of injury sustained by the driver of the BMW, but did say that the injury was fatal.

An elderly woman had been trying to cross the street at Lexington Avenue between 76th and 77th Street when a van struck her. New York County Police have identified the van and have said it was registered to Mount Vernon Money Corp; which is located on 3rd Street in Mount Vernon NY 10553; which is in West Chester County in NY. An out of control automobile caused an accident on a Queens bus stop in Douglaston, NY. Queens County Police reported that a young man driving in the rain tried to pass another car when his own vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into a bus stop. There were 6 people waiting for the Q30 bus when the crash occurred. The bus stop is located at Douglaston Parkway and 65th Avenue in Douglaston, NY and is part of the Q30 bus line which runs from the Long Island Rail Road terminal in Jamaica, NY to Little Neck, NY. Carmen Huertas, a 31 year old Bronx, NY resident, had been at a party in Chelsea, NY when she left to take her daughter and her daughter’s friends back to her home in the Bronx. Chelsea is in the lower part on Manhattan, NY and is a short 30 minute drive back to Huertas’ home on Walton Street in Bronx, NY. Huertas picked up her own daughter and 6 other young girls to have a slumber party at her home. Unfortunately, she had been drinking at the party she was at, and speeding while she was driving. Bronx County Police estimate she was driving in excess of 80 miles per hour. She lost control of her car on the Henry Hudson Parkway at West 96th Street in New York City. Her automobile flipped several times, throwing Huertas and other passengers onto the ground. Bronx County Police have reported that every person in the car suffered injury. Huertas sustained a broken nose and cheekbone and arm, her daughter had broken her wrist. One 11 year old child suffered fatal injury. The other children also suffered injury including broken arms and legs. The passengers were taken to Harlem Hospital; located at 506 Lenox Ave. New York NY 10037 and St. Luke's-Roosevelt; located at 1000 10 Ave. New York NY 10019. Bronx County Police also report that Huertas’ blood alcohol content was more than one and half times the legal limit, and that is the reason for the crash. She is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and DWI. She will be arraigned when she is released from the hospital.

Professor Edward Carr and his wife Ileen Wasserman were driving one night when a car driving in the opposite direction crashed into them.
